ADA FIXTURES – ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. ADA restrictions for lighting in businesses provide guidelines for better access and reasonable accommodation for the public with disabilities. ADA guidelines can also be used in private homes to accommodate guests with disabilities, or possibly you in the future; but there are no ADA requirements in lighting in private homes unless you carry on some type of business within your home. All wall lights mounted between 27 inches and 80 inches above the floor must protrude no more than 4 inches from the wall in all walkways, halls, and aisles to meet ADA requirements.
